SAFETYFORUM.COM:
Ford Expert's Testimony Disputes
Nasser's Claim of Explorer Safety
SEPT 18 -- Jacques Nasser's
claims that Ford's Explorer is "one of the safest vehicles in America"
is at odds with one of Ford's leading experts on vehicle stability.
According to data produced by Roger McCarthy, considered by the auto industry
as a leading authority in accident data analysis and an expert consultant
for Ford and other manufacturers, the Explorer is among the most rollover-prone
SUV's on the road. Ford Motor Company thinks so highly of McCarthy
and his consulting firm, Exponent,
that it paid Exponent $16,796,277.00 between 1992 and 1999.

Earlier this year McCarthy,
Chairman of Exponent's Board, testified in Isuzu's celebrated suit alleging
that Consumers Union had made false statements about Izuzu's Trooper.
During the trial, McCarthy produced accident data from a sample of eight
states revealing that 1991-98 Explorers were more frequently involved in
single vehicle rollover accidents than other medium-sized competitive vehicles.
McCarthy's data directly conflicts with Jac Nasser's repeated assertions
that the vehicle is "one of the safest cars in America." Little
Rock, Arkansas attorney Tab Turner, a Safetyforum.com "Attorney of Record" for tires,
and for vehicle stabilitiy issues, assisted in Consumers Union's defense.
