NHTSA'S Half-Great Idea

Telling parents to put children in the rear seat to get them away from airbags is not a bad idea. It would be a great idea if the following safety features were available: front seat backs were strong enough that they wouldn't collapse onto rear seat occupants; and all rear center positions had shoulder belts; and lap belt anchorage angles were steep enough to reduce abdominal injuries from "seat belt syndrome" submarining; and seat belt buckles were designed not to release in crashes. I know, picky, picky, picky.
