Evenflo Recalls Majestic(tm) High Chairs Due to Fall and Choking Hazards (12/18/08)

Evenflo Majestic(tm) High Chairs: Plastic caps and metal screws on both sides of the high chair can loosen and fall out, posing both fall and choking hazards to children. Evenflo has received 140 reports of seatbacks reclining, falling back and/or detaching unexpectedly, which resulted in at least 47 reports of bumps and bruises to the head, two reports of broken bones, and at least 45 reports of other injuries including abrasions, cuts, and bruises. more

Cinderella 12-Volt Electric Ride-On Vehicles: The wires under the hood of the car and/or in the battery compartment under the seat can short circuit, posing a fire and burn hazard to children riding in the car. The firm and CPSC are aware of 40 incidents of the toy car's wires overheating. In several incidents, smoke was seen coming out from underneath the seat area where the battery is located. In one incident, flames shot from under the hood while a 4-year-old girl was riding the vehicle. more

Evenflo, the maker of the Discovery child safety seat, is voluntarily recalling over 1,000,000 car seats. The car seat is a carrier that locks into a base which then is strapped to the rear seat of the vehicle. The manufacturer reports that studies show side impact crashes may cause the carrier to separate from the base allowing the child to fly about the inside of the car. The current recall effects only those seats built from the year 2005 through 2008. more
